#0140 | under stress, I froze
Submitted by LAK in Los Angeles, California.
Here’s LAK’s story:
“Showed up to a book signing for an ex-boyfriend I hadn’t seen in four years. Thought he would talk to me and I so wanted him to. I wanted to tell him everything, how life has been, about the story I had published. I wanted to ask him about the book he wrote. I wanted to just catch his eye from across the room.
I wasn’t sure what to say. I wasn’t even sure if he showed up at the event for me or not. The entire night happened and I tried not to look at him because I was afraid. He didn’t talk to me or approach me. And I didn’t talk to him. I feel somehow sad.”

I love that last line of the haiku - cleverness at its zenith!
I agree with the comment above. That last line is lovely.
Great way to convey the person’s frustration at his inability to act.

i could still catch up with you -
but i know i won’t
sad backstory to the haiku.
