#0139 | where did you come from

Here’s July’s story:

“I love eating out at restaurants. But until the global food crisis began making headlines recently, I had never given much thought to where my food actually comes from. I have friends in New York who have told me about the locavore movement. That’s a cool idea but I wouldn’t be able to restrict myself in that way.

I guess it’s just weird to look at your hamburger at a restaurant and think about where the cow was raised or where the grains for the bread were harvested or what country the sliced onions or tomatoes came from.”

This is an interesting thought. Where does our food come from? It just goes to show how, over the course of history, we have become so removed from food production, which is a crazy notion given the fact that food is the root of our survival and health. And, worse than not knowing where our food comes from is the fact that most people don’t even eat what their bodies (as biological structures) recognize as foods. Crackers, cookies, ice cream, chips, pizza and cheese in a can are just some examples that come to mind.

nice haiku. :) and an interesting reminder of how far we’ve come, when it comes to creating an even more interconnected world…
