#0136 | being powerless
Submitted by Sarah in Texas.
Here’s Sarah’s story:
Like this haiku? Buy us a cafe con leche!“A girl feels trapped in her own skin. She feels like her life hasn’t really begun yet due to her age and her restrictions- parents, school, etc. She’s had a hard life but its not getting easier and everything is harder for her than it was before, and keeps getting worse.
She wants to see the world, and she hates being kept down like she is. She can’t go anywhere because her family is really poor, and not being able to be out in the world and really live her life is making her depressed.”

Not being able
to have patience while still young
is your big mistake

Re: Frankie
She shouldn’t have to have patience. She should be living her life to the fullest every day she can. If she feels like she deserves more, she probably does, and I can sympathize.

She needs to realize that she is young, and needs to have a little patience. I made the mistake of leaving my home before I was really ready and I have not recovered from this after four years. She might be depressed with everything that’s happening in her life but at least she’s not alone. Trust me it could be worse, I know everyone always says that but it really is true.

if everyone got what they wanted instantaneously, what would we have to look forward to.
every bit of happiness comes with a healthy dose of suffering.
but keep dreaming, sometimes its the only thing we can do while we wait.

I agree with Frankie and April. We all felt like we were entitled to it all as kids and wanted immediate satisfaction but to live your dreams when you can truly appreciate them and have the knowledge to sustain them is so much better.
That said, this doesn’t discount the fact that may well deserve a better life than the one she is living. Hopefully she can endure until able to break out on her own.
What makes the haiku break my heart is thinking of the people who are 30, 40, etc. feeling this way.

Nothing happens for a reason. It’s all completely random. Saying it all happens for a reason is just an easy way out.
May 2nd, 2008 at 1:27 pm
It is not completly random. Life sometimes hands you situations you can not always handle, but, you must always stay strong because when you look back you’ll be able to say i made it through that, wow I can face anything.

I don’t think staying strong has anything to do with it being random. You can still stay strong and face things and know that you’re not being punished because of some “master plan” some church official made up for you, but just because stuff happens, and probability says at some point in your life you’ll get shit thrown at you just because. Saying it’s not random implies a god with a plan so in the end we’re just arguing religion.

Hey, Cat, you sound a little bitter. While I agree with you that religion shouldn’t be an issue here (I’m agnostic, if anybody cares), let’s not pretend we have all the answers, shall we? No one person knows anything for certain, and even if life isn’t random, that doesn’t automatically mean there has to be some guy in the sky pulling all the strings.
Just try to be as openminded as I’m sure you’d like others to be, ok?
