#0097 | mine eyes deceive me

Submitted by Joseph in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Here’s Joseph’s story:

“They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what happens when those eyes don’t see too well?

Like many of the male relatives in my extended family, I was born color blind.  This meant not realizing there were beautiful red flowers in the green bushes in front of the house where I grew up until the day someone realized I couldn’t see them and pointed them out to me.

I didn’t feel cheated per se, but I did become aware of a whole spectrum of visual experience others take for granted from which I have been excluded.  As the saying goes, “perception is reality,” and the truth is that my version of reality is lacking in texture and detail.”

Great morning, I would like to say many thanks for an very cool site about a topic I have had an curiosity in for some time now. I have been looking in and reading through the responses and only wanted to voice my thanks for giving me some rather helpful reading material. I anticipate reading more, and taking a more active part in the comments here, whilst picking up some expertise too!
