Here’s Mercy’s story:

“One of the saddest sights in winter is seeing swimming pools that have been emptied all abandoned and filled with leaves.

It feels like the object has been stripped of its dignity and purpose, left barren for all to see like some desecrated statue of a forgotten totalitarian.  The pool is humbly deposed, its raison d’etre obliterated, its contours a literal empty shell of its former self.

Maybe I’m weird but it has a poetic quality to it–that’s why I think it’s worthy of a haiku.”
