Haiku for You | there can be no rest

Submitted by Anonymous in California.

Here’s Anonymous’ story:

“When I was growing up, I had a cousin I didn’t see very often. The one or two times I saw him each year, he always struck me as being a little odd in a way I was not able to articulate at that age.

As a teenager years later, I was told by my parents that he suffered from paranoid delusions and had to be put in a mental health institution. Only then did I begin to understand why he had always seemed strange to me.

I still think about him every so often, even though I haven’t seen him in years, and I inevitably wind up thinking about how awful it must be to live your life feeling like everyone and everything is out to get you. I cannot begin to wrap my mind around what that must do to you. I feel so sorry for him while at the same time realizing that it is the only sort of life he knows.”
