#0050 | once bitten, twice shy

Here’s Arkonbey’s story:
“Last year I was mountain biking alone near my parents’ hometown on my sister’s wedding day. I had a very nasty crash (a true faceplant) that resulted in me breaking my tooth, cracking my helmet, and receiving abrasions on my chin and the tip of my nose.
I actually came within inches of hitting a very large rock with my face which, given the nature of the crash, would have been exceptionally nasty and might have resulted in my death. I was alone, I don’t have a cell phone, I was riding in an area that doesn’t see much mid-week riding traffic, and my parents only had a vague idea as to where I was.
It’s been a year since then and I still don’t push myself off-road when I’m alone. That crash sort of made it so that I have no ’stones’ when I’m riding solo.”

I can relate, having been in a pretty horrible car accident. I avoided driving for years, but then realized enough was enough.
It’s how we are able to overcome these incidents that make us stronger - not just getting through them. It’s a matter of willing yourself a little bit more each day, time, etc. - and believe me, I know that’s easier said than done. But eventually, one day you’ll be so close to “normal” that all it will take is one last push - and you’ll be surprised at how quickly it comes.
Good luck to you.
I just found this site. What a wonderful idea. I’m so excited to start reading on a regular basis.
