Here’s Shannon’s story:

“Even though I am the kind of person who has always really enjoyed the arts, I have not been blessed with a lot of creative talent. It can be frustrating at times since things like music and photography are such a big part of my life, albeit only from the sidelines as a spectator.

When I moved away to college a couple of years ago I slowly began to make new friends who had many of the abilities I had coveted for such a long time.  However, instead of becoming jealous of my new pals who were great musicians and artists, I found myself growing more reverent of what they were capable of.  My awe of their talents were a part of what made these new people so special and dear to me.  Likewise, being in the company of a crowd whose skills I admired made me more aware of some of my strengths since a lot of what they aspired toward were things which came easily to me.

I would be lying if I said I never wished I could suddenly play the piano well or paint a landscape, but now I am much more comfortable with what does and doesn’t come naturally to me.  It has made me a better person because I’ve realized that there are plenty of people out there who wish they had some of my talents.  It’s a little like realizing that the grass isn’t necessarily greener on the other side.”

There are days that I too, want to have a piano in a never ending field. Oh to have the perfectly placed stump to sit on next to it! What I would give for that!

=) Love the bear.
