#0022 | how does my boss know
Submitted by Bee in the United Kingdom.
Here’s Bee’s story:
“I work in a busy law firm as a paralegal. We do the legal work you can do without having to have any legal qualifications.
I am extremely sensible and professional for 99.5% of the work day, but as the work our department does is particularly depressing, chasing debts, occasionally you have to lighten the mood and let go.
Unfortunately for me, there is one senior partner on our floor who seems magnetically drawn to me when I am being idiotic. He doesn’t know my name and our paths rarely cross under normal circumstances but whenever I am being clumsy, gurning, singing to myself or stuffing my face with chocolate, he finds a reason to be directly behind me.
The latest example of my horrible luck was when I was talking to a collegue about my weekend and, who knows why, decided to do a very energetic impression of a stupid position I got myself into while rock climbing. Of course Senior Partner Who Hates Me was walking to the kitchen at this precise moment, just in time to see me contorting and cavorting in the centre of the office.
It is beyond coincidence now, I am genuinely scared of being fired by this man as I am certain he thinks I am troubled.
Looking forward to the next update and some more amazing haikus.”

I know, whenever I’m spiking my folger’s coffee with vodka and a twist of vicodin, my boss always rudely interrupts….
so funny! i think everyone has been in that sort of position before. one time i was nearly fired for something very similar!
i love the illustration, too
Thats why he is the boss - he is not as goofy as you.
I’m always doing snake talk too. Hssss…
It’s very Harry Potter of me.
I guess that is why he is there, he has that magic ability to sense someone trying to have fun. I don’t think he’ll fire you, I bet he is secretly wishing that he could be you sometimes.
What an honour. And it is a fairly accurate depiction of the kind of thing I get caught doing at work day to day.
Also on the stupid behaviour list is saying ‘doop doop doop doop doop…’ over and over to myself while filing, bopping up and down on the spot while photocopying and knitting - even though it was in a legitimate lunch break it got that raised eyebrow that you know will effect your future earning power forever…
Thank you for this most excellent haiku. My collegues all loved it too… more fans for your site. xx
