Here’s Vic’s story:

“Van Gogh’s Ear is my idea.

Why would van Gogh cut off his ear? It’s a very strange thing to do. I often wonder what Gaugin, his closest friend, thought of this extreme form of lamentation. Did Gaugin return from Tahiti to visit van Gogh in the hospital? Did he rush to the Emergency Room and ask, “Vinnie, what the hell is wrong with you? No girl is worth your ear, for God’s sake! Have you lost your mind?”

Maybe van Gogh did lose his mind. Some speculate he ate too much lead paint off his fingers. Others just think that his own colors hypnotized him. (Actually, I am proposing this theory; I’ve never heard anyone else mention it).”

Thank you for haikuing me. I am honored. Your haiku put into simple syllables all of my feelings on the matter of Van Gogh and his ear affair. You’ve exceeded my expectations. Plus the art was tasteful and reminiscent of the master’s work. Kudos.

At least he didn’t keep it for a brush or something but it was certainly a freaky thing.

Actually, Gaugin didn’t really like van Gogh all that much. He was just a freeloader.
