#0007 | formerly skittish

Here’s Michael and Kate’s story:
“Dear Haiku for You,
We need a haiku for our cat, Amos.
After our black cat ran away, we were distraught and wanted to adopt a white one.
We chose a cat that, as it turns out, clearly had a poor childhood, and was afraid of everything, especially people – he hid for days, then weeks, and was skittish for months – darting at the site of you. You couldn’t get near him.
We kept giving him names as he began to show personality traits, and slowly but surely, got nearer. Now his full name is Amos Otis “Tighty Whitey” Milos Moses Scruptious “Pudding” Syncope Eritrea “The Professor” “Skippy” “He-man” Woonsocket Blummcat, and we love him very much.
Over time he’s come around to welcome us home, to dance for food, to permit touches for a short time. But now, haiku team, now he eats so much that he’s getting fat. And he walks over to us, flops on his side, and insists on belly rubs all day. He’s so happy and lazy! Please help us with his haiku.”

I feel strangely compelled to touch that belly.
Do not run away
Happy is a cat with fat
Love it up, Lazy
amos is so proud. we’re going to frame the haiku above his bed. he is not quite this fat yet, but i predict he will be soon!
thank you, H4U!
Huzzah for Haikittens! or is it Haikutens? Either way -today’s is adorable both in words and art.
Good luck with this new haiku blog, I wonder if an article of mine on haiku might be of interest to y’all: “Becoming a Haiku Poet” at http://www.haikuworld.org/begin/mdwelch.apr2003.html. Comments welcome.
meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer!
What a wonderful haiku and story. My sister’s dog, a golden retriever/welsh corgi mix, demanded a belly rub of me this morning. He emitted all kinds of howls until I came over to him to calm him down as my mom was talking on the phone in my parents’ apartment, and promptly fell on his side, legs bent up. Like, “Rub my tummy, dummy”.
Nice haiku and picture but dogs are my style.
Did I just read doggy style?
